Network Arts Training Program


Network Arts Training is offered through a partnership with JackTrip Foundation. Network Arts Training provide introductory and advanced instruction in contemporary network arts. The courses are designed for artists, technologists, and educators in nonprofit fields to learn audiovisual techniques for live performance via the internet and receive customized training for accomplishing individual projects. At the conclusion of each course students will receive a certificate of completion.

INTRODUCTION TO CONTEMPORARY NETWORK ARTS

This 6-week course is for artists and technologists that are new to contemporary network arts. The materials provide an overview on artistic strategies and technologies. Technical topics include network arts softwares and hardwares (JackTrip, Jamulus, SonoBus, Zoom, Jitsi, and others), live sound and video hardware (microphones, headphones, speakers, cameras, lighting, interfaces), streaming to virtual venues (OBS, Vimeo Livestream, YouTube Live, Twitch), and recording. Artistic topics will cover composition, improvisation, conducting, installations, multimedia, and curation. Upon completion of the course students will have broad knowledge of the field that can be applied to individual projects.

Introduction to Contemporary Network Arts is an online course with weekly asynchronous videos, synchronous live instruction labs, assignments, course email list moderated by instructors, and network arts resources.

APPLIED CONTEMPORARY NETWORK ARTS

This 6-week course is for artists and technologists to learn advanced techniques in contemporary network arts and accomplish professional individual projects. Students have prior knowledge in the field or have completed the Introduction course. Technical topics include JackTrip Open Source, remote servers, hardware setups, internet optimization, audio and video routing, digital audio workstations, mixing and recording, and streaming production. Artistic topics cover advanced strategies for composition, improvisation, conducting, installations, multimedia, and curation. The main focus of the course is to apply the skills to individual projects. Custom topics will be included by request. Upon completion of the course students will have specialized knowledge of the field and skills to accomplish professional projects.
